Our Robottles

"Making robottles was an enjoyable and memorable experience for our grade "sixers". Having previously made various simple circuits they relished the challenge of constructing this working toy and including a proper switch. The children came up with some intersting variations on the Robottle design and some went on to create other toys.  A follow up activity was writting a clear set of step by step instructions on how to make a robottle for children in another class."

OutPuppets

I used the puppets to cover many aspects of the CSF.

  • I used it to develop and experience another genre of writing, playwriting. The children were asked to write a short play for 3 people. (the size of the group was determined by how many children could fit intot the puppet theatre we made from a large refrigerator box.
  • I suggested that they used a fairy tale as a starting point.
  • The children's imagination was put to good use by designing, then making, the puppets.
  • The children then had to rehearse their plays. (working co-operatively)
  • The children performed their plays for the Grade Three students.

This very simple puppet was given many different disguises and encouraged a great deal of imagination and performance skills. A very worthwhile effort, but be warned, you will need more than the five weeks suggested.

KNOX GARDENS PRIMARY SCHOOL - 5234.

The children at Knox Gardens Primary School in Wantirna South, Melbourne, Victoria participate in a wide variety of technology activity. Technology is taught as part of the school's Integrated Studies. This year the Grade Two children have been experimenting with Logiblocs.   We are so pleased with them that we have purchased a second kit.

The children work in pairs or small groups to work their way through the projects in the book. They are then free to experiment on their own.

The Logiblocs are so popular with the children that they cannot wait to have their turn and really enjoy showing their creations to the rest of the class.

LETTERS FROM GRADE 5/6 CHILDREN

"It gave us a chance to see electronics in a different way. It wasn't like the usual wires, tape, batteries and circuits. They joined very easily and allowed you to show your imagination. Jeremy, Sam and I made a circuit about 18cm in diameter."

Sean.

"Logiblocs are good because they are fun to play with easy to use because they are colour coded and easy to attach to each other. We had fun making the models and creating our own models. It was really good that they have a buzzer, light and a button to start it up. We also use a battery!"

"The logiblocs are small and fun to play with. It is for testing which block to which block you can join to form light and sound by using a battery. You can even make your own without using instructions too. I like it because I can create my own into shapes and even see how it works. It's very amazing!"

By Jennifer.

"I learned that you could join some electric things together without using some wire or sticky tape because all of the wiring and all that sort of stuff was already done and so all we hade to do was just join the things.   The colours of them were blue, red yellow and orange. There were lights that sometimes flashed and also there was a sound as well as the lights flashing on and off!"
