Optical Illusions
Download the instructions for this activity as a PDF file. (714 Kb)
Many illusions can be created through movement. Magicians use fast hand movements to trick the eye into seeing things. The movement of spinning tops and stroboscopes creates pictures and patterns different from when they are stationary
Look at a bicycle wheel when it is stationary. Sketch the pattern the spokes make. What happens when the wheel moves? How do the spokes look now?
Instructions on making a yo-yo and stroboscopes are also included.
