At Gardenvale Primary School, the Visual Arts Program is directly linked to classroom Integrated Units across all levels. I have found that integrating art sessions into mainstream classroom units of study provides a flow of learning rather than a stop/start approach and it offers a genuine rich context for developing a range of skills and understandings. Where the units do not lend themselves to stimulating activities or if tasks appear forced or artificial in nature, then an unrelated Visual Arts Unit is always undertaken in its place.
