The Sea and the Environment

Using the concept of a porthole as a window into the sea

The first porthole depicts the way we would always like to see our underwater environment.




The second shows what the reality may be if we don’t address our pollution problems.




The third porthole looks into the depth of our ocean - perhaps one day we will have dwellings under the sea and discover creatures we would never have imagined existed.

Background - silk painting Seaweed - tyvek, painted and heat treated. Metallic chenilles, black tulle. Fish - Sequins glued into a shape of a fish. Sea urchins - glitter poms and tassels made from broder cotton.

Dead Fish - Modelene and beading wire   Oil Slicks - Create this effect using strands of fairy hair. Use pieces of cork, plastic, rubber, cans, fishing line, etc. Jelly fish - are made from beading wire and seed beads. Giant Squid - is made with nylon filling and stocking pieces.
